Made it to Canaries!

We made it! Yesterday evening we reached Canary Islands and anchored the boat in anchorage near Isla Graziosa.

The passage was hard, and our not best health didn't help. Tomaz's was getting better, fortunately, but my cold got worse and first two days were really difficult. This was our first passage of this length - 5 days and 4 nights, up until now our longest was 2 days and 2 nights - with just the two of us, we struggled a bit with schedule for watches and my conclusion is that three people on a passages are much better than two. Even with best of health.

We didn't have much wind, so we motored a lot. On the ocean, with big waves, you don't just get slower with less wind, but the sails starts to flap and boat starts to shake which is pretty painful to see and hear. Last three days were cloudy and grey, we didn't see any whales, turtles, just couple of birds and a glimpse of a dolphin. Probably the most joyous thing was when we discover our blind passenger.

Anyway, it's over and we're looking forward to rediscover Lanzarote again and spend some time with our friends. Hopefully it will get warmer, so we might even get to swim in the sea.

Here are some photos from the passage.

  2. Great photos, Lili. Hope you and Tomaz are feeling better now that you can get some good rest. Watches are brutal.

Funny, I always had this vision the Canaries were filled with tropical birds and lots of foliage to accommodate them.

That's coming soon again for you two.

    Cheers!

  3. Hey guys, thanks for you comments. Yeah, watches are brutal. Tomaz is feeling much better, I'm still fighting my cold. Lanzarote is probably most moon-like island of all Canaries, with unbelievable colours of rocks. There's more vegetation on some other islands. As we plan on doing some island-hopping, there will be more photos.
    Cheers,
    Lili
